Yageo is Developing the Highly Reliable X8R MLCC with AEC-Q200 Compliance
Yageo is extending their product portfolio towards higher working temperatures. The X8R dielectric MLCC has a capacitance stability of ±15% between -55°C to +150°C, and it is designed for target markets such as automotive and other segments requiring extreme temperature applications.
Many car outfits, originally only available for luxury vehicles, have now became standard equipment for reasons of safety, infotainment and comfort. The usage of MLCCs has increased rapidly because more electronic systems have been installed in a car. On the other hand, as a spacious and cozy passenger area is essential, it has meant that these extra electronic devices have been pushed into the engine compartment where temperatures are higher. The X8R MLCCs, which withstand higher temperatures, can be used in such devices in an ICE or hybrid car.
In addition to automotive, other applications such as oil well exploration, high temperature camera modules, and military and aerospace industries will also be X8R consumers. Since the X8R features a 150°C maximum operating temperature, the reliability performance under 125°C is expected to be much better than the X7R. If applications where reliability is the top concern, the X8R is highly recommended, even though the operational temperature is lower than 150°C.
The first stage ranges to be introduced include capacitance of 100nF with case sizes of 0603, 0805, and 1206, followed by capacitance of 1uF with case sizes of 0805 and 1206. Production part approval process (PPAP) documents are ready for all the X8R series items. The X8R series features improved thermal and mechanical robustness, and this offers customers a wider variety of choices and solutions in order to meet various application demands and requirements.
